Voices of California's Apprentices (December 2019)

California is home to 93,000 apprentices today, more than any other state in the nation, and the governor has set an ambitious target to more than double that number. In response to this lofty goal, new programs in growth sectors across the state are adopting the apprenticeship model. Program implementers hope to expand the opportunities available to all Californians and ensure that everyone has a pathway to sustainable careers. This month we ask, what has been the impact of our early efforts on the apprentices themselves? We speak with apprentices from different backgrounds, industries, and locations across the state to hear their stories, and find some commonalities that have drawn them to the apprenticeship model, and what awaits them in the future.
