The Bookshelf: Building Apprenticeships and Pre-Apprenticeships

These three brief case studies describe promising practices from Alaska, Iowa, and Ohio.

  •  Alaska partnered with a health care intermediary to expand apprenticeship access in rural areas, especially with native populations, using distance learning and distance mentoring.
  •  Iowa formed partnerships with state agencies and intermediaries to create targeted pipelines, including a partnership with the Department of Corrections to double the number of apprentices in Iowa’s correction facilities.
  •  Ohio established policies and processes to certify pre-apprenticeship programs to promote quality and increase access to Registered Apprenticeships.
