Dear Apprenticeship Community of Practice
What a year 2021 has been thus far. With all that is going on at the state and federal level as it relates to economic recovery, education, and workforce development, we wanted this month's newsletter to highlight important movements within the apprenticeship ecosystem here in California and nationally. In the recent 2021-22 budget proposal submitted by Governor Newsom to the Legislature, there is a significant investment in apprenticeship and work-based learning. Over the past year, members of our apprenticeship community have come together to imagine a system of apprenticeship that is equitable, sustainable, and mapping paths in new and innovative sectors.
In this issue’s In Case You Missed It section, you will find important news impacting apprenticeship, including the most recent release of the Governor's State Budget, as well as a fact sheet outlining the National Apprenticeship Act 2021. We have also shared the news announcement of California Labor Secretary Julie Su being named President Joe Biden’s nominee to serve as second-in-command in the U.S. Labor Department.
We hope you’ll delve into the Tips From the Field section, which includes several resources addressing topics such as equity and inclusion in apprenticeship, an article highlighting a CAI grantee, and a resource outlining how an apprenticeship can boost California’s economic recovery. Readers will find great reports on The Bookshelf, including California Forward 2021 Roadmap To Shared Prosperity, which outlines six policy areas inextricably linked and critical to all Californians’ prosperity. Additionally, the State of California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Apprenticeship Standards Quarterly Report offers the apprenticeship community key updates on California apprenticeship, including statistical data reports, field office updates, and other apprenticeship activities.
Finally, check out our Announcements section for news on upcoming events and other happenings in the apprenticeship ecosystem, including our forthcoming webinar in March.
Until next month and with care,
